Our World Neighborhood Charter School

9-03 44th Rd., Long Island City

Pending approval from the New York City Board of Standards and Appeals this school will be part of a mixed use development on a full block site in the exploding growth community of Long Island City. The school will ultimately serve over 700 students in grades K-8 in a state-of-the-art modern facility. Built above an innovative light industrial facility, this mixed-use development will provide students the opportunity to gain exposure to the businesses that function below, providing them with access to real-life work experience.

Our World Neighborhood Charter School educates students to become independent thinkers and lifelong learners. Its educational philosophy is based on inquiry, active and experiential learning, and social justice. The school is an outgrowth of the Astoria Parents Network, a group of parents concerned about overcrowding in the public schools and discouraged by lack of opportunities for meaningful parent involvement in the local schools. Our Word Neighborhood Charter School provides a rigorous liberal arts education within an environment of cultural diversity, preparing students to meet the challenges of high school.
